Building Better Days

THE BRIEF
Building Better Days was a collaborative project between UTS and Northcott Innovation. The brief challenged us to empower those living and working within Northcott homes, focusing on encouraging staff to place greater value on the smaller moments of interaction they experience with Northcott residents.

THE PROBLEM
The issue which seemingly caused a barrier between staff and residents interactions revolved around their two differing communication styles. Staff, for example, work and communicate around schedules and paper notices, whilst most residents communicate through sensory and non-verbal modes.

THE SOLUTION
Our solution therefore effectively combines these two languages together, through the form of a centralised schedule wall. This provides a physical mode of communication which encourages staff and residents to identify the meaningful moments of interaction they could experience throughout the day. The wall also allows staff to understand and learn what each resident values, helping them utilise moments to support residents growth and help build valuable relationships.

In this activity of building, residents and staff are encouraged to collaborate and build better days, together.
